Mr. Burns clerked for Honorable E. Stephen Derby, a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Maryland. This experience gave him a depth of knowledge in his field. By working in the bankruptcy court, Mr. Burns was able to see a bankruptcy case from all sides and from a viewpoint not often gained by most attorneys working in this area of law.

No one else works on the type of corporate bankruptcies we do. We do not take a cookie cutter approach to our cases or our clients. We know that each corporation and each individual is unique, and the circumstances surrounding each case are distinctive. Because our approach differs depending on the client, so, too, does our fee. Rather than charge a client who comes to us with a simple case the same as one who comes to use with a complex bankruptcy, we reasonably set our rate to address the underlying issue. There is no reason a client with a simple legal and financial issue should pay the same price as a corporation with a complex bankruptcy.

There are two bankruptcy courts in Maryland; one is in Baltimore [the Northern Division], and the other is located in Greenbelt [the Southern Division], where The Burns Law Firm, LLC, has been part of the legal community since 1998. This means that Mr. Burns is very familiar not only with the legal issues of filing for bankruptcy, but is also well known in the court and in the city as someone who is very knowledgeable about bankruptcy. While Mr. Burns represents clients in both the Baltimore and Greenbelt courts, our firm tends to handle more of the Greenbelt cases. Mr. Burns' familiarity with the court and its staff lends a certain level of reassurance to his clients; a stressful situation is easier to deal with when you have someone showing you the ropes.
